Making a difference… September 2005

Twice a week, for the last ten years, Dorothy Argent has been making a difference, volunteering to help run the Christian Lewis Trust, Children's Cancer Charity Shop in the Uplands, Swansea.

In the 'Year of Volunteering', Dorothy's record of helping to raise much needed funds is indeed something that she can feel justifiably proud of, Week in, week out Dorothy travels on two buses from her home in Ynystawe.

Shop Manager, Sonia Eaton remarked on Dorothy's loyalty and dedication to the charity and her friendly and enthusiastic manner to the shop's customers. Always willing to go that extra mile to find that elusive bargain outfit.

"I really enjoy volunteering" said Dorothy" for me it is far better than sitting at home watching daytime telly. You meet so many different types of interesting people and the staff and other volunteers are so kind."

Volunteering is about helping other people and enjoying yourself at the same time. It can be flexible and can give you skills for a new career, as well as improving your well-being.
