| Teenage Therapy Room |
May 2005 |
At the Christian Lewis Trust, we recognise the need to work with children and young people in the way that is most fitting for them.
We realise that for older children playing with toys may feel as though it has been outgrown (at least outwardly anyway). With this in mind we have sought to create an environment that while offering comfort and confidentiality, it is distinctly separate from our 'play room'.
Through the generosity of a grant from Barclays Bank we have had the opportunity to refurbish one of our rooms so that we can maximise its use and offer an all-important comfortable space for teenagers and families. The room has been designed to be neutral and contemporary in its decoration, at the same time it is light and airy offering space to sit and talk though what is going on. The privacy of the room means that for older children/young people we are able to provide a 'safe space' where there will be no interruptions.
At the same time, the child or young person is able to end the session at any point and chose to leave the room to return to their awaiting parent/carer. We believe in the importance of emotional support as fundamental to helping create a positive sense of well being for the individual. The grant that we have received from Barclays means that not only are we able to offer this vital service but also look at offering it to more children, young people and their families.
