The gift of Easter Eggs Easter 2006

It was with a sense of gratitude that we received over 200 chocolate Easter Eggs from businesses within the community, including British Gas, based in Cardiff.

The eggs were delivered by the staff, who risked the unpredictably of traffic on the M4 to travel to our office. Anne and I were given the delightful task of distributing the eggs amongst the children of the families that we work with.

As I handed out the eggs, matching an egg to the child's preference I was left to reflect how important such a gift is. With one young girl, the gift of an egg, helped her to reflect on past Easters, spent with Mum, even more important to her now since her Mum died of cancer in March. For children and families who are going through chemotherapy, it allows the child to feel that other people care and reminds us that even amongst a strict regime, normal things, high days and holidays still occur and are important to the child.

We are especially pleased that we are able to hand out eggs to the siblings as well as the ill children. For the brothers and sisters there can be a sense of feeling left out because so much of the time and attention must go to supporting the ill child. Feeling noticed and appreciated makes a huge difference. We are so grateful that we were given this opportunity and recognize that therapy comes in many different forms and sizes, including egg shaped.
